The smartest thing that one can do while buying knives is to buy an entire set instead of one at a time. Knife sets pack several kinds of knives that can cover all sorts of cutting needs in the kitchen, including cutting vegetables to slicing bread. There are many great knife sets out there that try to deliver as many different kinds of knives to you, so if you’re looking to buy one that suits your needs the best, you’re going to have to ask yourself what your needs are. This JA Henckels knife set review can help you figure out which set works best for you.
Our Favourite JA Henckels Knife Set Review
If you chose our site then you probably already know how we love trying out knives and reviewing them to find out which ones are the best choices. We took the liberty to try out the best knives from JA Henckels to bring you this hands-on review; now without further ado, let’s get into what we liked about these sets.
Zwilling Twin Signature Knife Set of 19 Pieces Including Block
Right off the bat, this set is an outstanding choice because it packs 19 pieces. This means that you’re going to have every knife that you could possibly need in your kitchen. And what’s more? They’ve also included a cutting block with the set which we think is very convenient. These German knives are right up there with some of the highest quality knives that you can find out there.
Every knife in this set features an ice-hardened blade what this means is that they’re forged in a manner that gives them a much higher durability than ordinary knives. After you’ve spent some time using these knives, you’ll notice how you haven’t felt the need to sharpen them at all; this is because of their ice-hardened blades that can hold the edge for much longer.
All knives in this set have a three-riveted design; this is a way of securing the handle and the blade together. Another thing you’ll notice about these is that they’re used with a full tang which allows for an improved balance while cutting and even more durability. All chefs want to get their hands on a knife set that offers them the most extensive variety of cutting choices, and such a balance is precisely what this set has to offer.
Here’s a list of the knives included in the set;
- 4-inch parer
- Two utility knives: 6 inch and 4.5 inch
- 8-inch chef knife
- 8-inch bread knives
- 8 steak knives in total
- 5-inch peeler
- 5-inch serrated knife
- 7-inch Santoku knife
Aside from the wide variety of blades, you also get a steel sharpening tool, shears and a single storage block made from bamboo. All knives in this set promise to hold their edge as well as possible and have a complete lifetime warranty to do so. Thanks to how well balanced these are, you’ll immediately notice that you don’t need to apply too much effort when cutting your food and still get a nice clean cut.
You better be careful while handling these though, these knives are so sharp that even the slightest graze may leave a cut on your finger, which I found out the hard way, unfortunately. It’s recommended that you wash these knives by hand instead of putting them in a dishwasher since they might wear out faster that way.
Overall, this knife set offers you precisely what you could hope for from a knife set that promises quality. You’ll have pretty much any kind of knife that you could ever need in this set and the fact that you get a block of bamboo to store them and keep them safe makes it even better.
The 18-Piece International Forged Premio Set With Block
This particular knife set is pretty affordable for a set of 18 pieces but offers such quality that we had to try it out for ourselves and write a review on it! This set can last for years and years of constant use, and no knife will break. There’s quite the variety of blades in this set including the following:
- Paring knife
- Utility Knife
- Chef knife
- Serrated knife
- Santoku Hollow Edge Knife
- Bread cutting Knife
- Deboning Knife
- Set of 8 steak knives
Aside from the knives mentioned above, the set also includes a pair of shears, a steel sharpening tool and a wooden block to help you store all your knives and keep them sharper for longer.
The smart full-tang design provides these with an excellent balance since this means that the knife handle and blade are forged as a single piece. This also makes the knives stronger and together with the superior stability, they allow you to cut through most food effortlessly and even if you hack into hard bones, you won’t have to worry about the handle and the blade ever separating. The handle’s 3 riveted design is another feat of the superior craftsmanship that went into the making of these beautiful knives.
The stainless steel blades boast a nice satin finish that allows for a perpetually sharp edge and a clean cut. These are German knives and though the blade might read ‘Made in China,’ don’t let that fool you into thinking that these aren’t high-quality knives.
If there’s one thing that we wish that this set had, it’s the block of bamboo that the previous set came with but then again, this set is way cheaper, and for the quality and options it offers, it’s got excellent value for money.
The only two things that someone could complain about with this set is that its block isn’t the best fit for the knives and the fact that they’re made in China despite the fact that they’re German knives. The sharpening steel isn’t the best one we’ve used either but considering how cheap this set is, it’s hardly a deal buster for us. This set is affordable, and it is very high quality.
The 15 Piece International Statement Knife Set Including Storage Block
This knife set is definitely the easiest to afford on this list but make no mistake, it doesn’t compromise on the great features that the previous ones offered. Right off the bat, we loved the way the block is designed for this set; it’s very well optimized, and the knives slide right in and out effortlessly, and the spacing is perfect too. As much as we dig the block for this set, we’re here to talk about the knives and not just the block.
The stainless steel blades can resist stains and rust, and the knife is built into a polypropylene handle with that classy triple riveted design for better ergonomics. There’s a full tang design, which we always look for in premium knives.
Here are the knives you’ll find in this set of 15;
- Paring knife
- Chef’s knife
- Utility Knife
- Santoku knife (5 inch and 7 inch blades)
- Bread knife
- Set of 6 steak knives
And as a standard with all the knife sets we have talked about before, this one also includes a steel tool for sharpening, a pair of shears and a really nice block to hold all your knives in place.
The blade’s forged out of a single piece of metal that goes all the way into the handle in a full tang design; however, a forged bolster for extra safety is absent. Despite that, these are so easy to afford that we just had to have them on our list; they offer the kind of quality that you can expect from JA Henckels, but they aren’t as durable as the set that takes the #1 spot on our list.
So, Picked a Favourite Yet?
Now that we’ve gone over our list, it’s up to you to take your pick. All of these knives are excellent quality and could work in your kitchen. We’ve listed them in descending order, according to their prices so if one turns out to be a little out of our budget, a cheaper alternative follows. The Zwilling is definitely the best set on this list and is the most expensive one as well. However, it’s more balanced and offers greater versatility than its following counterparts. The following sets might be cheaper, but they’re also built on a full tang design, something that’s really hard to find in cheaper knife sets and they’re all by the same German manufacturer that’s known for their premium quality knives.
Ultimately, you can’t exactly make a mistake with any of the above sets on this list, so they’re all safe options, and we tested them out thoroughly for you before letting you in on this review.
