Breaking down the basic Rollover
This is for those of you that don’t frequent the Message Board for one reason or another. (You really should by the way, there’s some great information passed along in there).
This was actually a response to one of my faithful asking for help on this technique. I figured, if one needed it, then there had to be others that were having trouble.
The Basic Forward grip closed position into the Backhand grip closed position rollover:

~1) Start in the forward grip closed position. Turn the wrist over so the tang is pointing toward the floor, at about the 7 o’clock position. The entire “lead-in” to the roll is accomplished with a turning of the wrist only. Little or no arm movement.
~ Position your Index finger tip so it’s right IN the pivot area. It should actually be touching the tang.
~2) You should have the safe handle IN (just to be consistent with the example). Let go of the bite handle and roll your wrist out at the same time.
~4) Just before your wrist turns the hand vertical (10 or 11 o’clock position), STOP it abruptly. This is very important as it sets the speed, and center Axis of the rotation. It must be a clean, crisp stop.
~ Release the safe handle just as the bite handle comes over the top. This is the FEEL part. It has to be done in a way that the bite handle pulls the blade and safe handle over with it. My best estimation; If you STOP the wrist at the 11 o’clock position, then release when the bite handle is pointing at the 1 or 2 o’clock position.
~ Moderate speed is the key. Too slow and the Bali won’t fully rotate over. Too fast and the Bali will usually fly off out of control. The speed will develop naturally from the handles whipping around the Axis (Index finger).
~9) Turn your wrist over to vertical to allow the safe handle to come up (from below) and into the closed position.
